Start up repair

If you've downloaded Windows 7 (and even if you haven't) it's a good idea to create a system repair disc straight away in case you run into problems booting the OS later on. Click Start > Maintenance > Create a System Repair Disc, and let Windows 7 build a bootable emergency disc. If the worst does happen then it could be the only way to get your PC running again.


Calibrate your screen

The colors you see on your screen will vary depending on your monitor, graphics cards settings, lighting and more, yet most people use the same default Windows colour profile. And that means a digital photo you think looks perfect might appear very poor to everybody else. Fortunately Windows 7 now provides a Display Color Calibration Wizard that helps you properly set up your brightness, contrast and colour settings, and a Clear Type tuner to ensure text is crisp and sharp. Click Start, type DCCW and press Enter to give it a try.

 Explore God Mode

Windows 7 has changed Control Panel a little, but it's still too difficult to locate all the applets and options that you might need. God Mode, however, while not being particularly godlike, does offer an easier way to access everything you could want from a single folder.

To try this out, create a new folder and rename it to:

The first part, "Everything" will be the folder name, and can be whatever you want: "Super Control Panel", "Advanced", "God Mode" if you prefer.

The extension, ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C, must be entered exactly as it is here, though, including the curly brackets. When you press [Enter] this part of the name will disappear, and double-clicking the new folder will display shortcuts to functions in the Action Centre, the Network and Sharing Centre, Power options, troubleshooting tools, user accounts and others - more than 260 options in total.

Customise the log-on screen 

Changing the Windows log-on screen used to involve some complicated and potentially dangerous hacks, but not any more - Windows 7 makes it easy.
First, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background in REGEDIT, double-click the DWORD key called OEMBackground (not there? Create it) and set its value to 1.
Now find a background image you'd like to use. Make sure it's less than 256KB in size, and matches the aspect ratio of your screen as it'll be stretched to fit.
Next, copy that image into the %windir%\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds folder (create the info\backgrounds folders if they don't exist). Rename the image to backgroundDefault.jpg, reboot, and you should now have a custom log-on image.
Alternatively, use a free tweaking tool to handle everything for you. Logon Changer displays a preview so you can see how the log-on screen will look without rebooting, while the Logon Screen Rotator accepts multiple images and will display a different one every time you log on.

Custom power switch 

By default, Windows 7 displays a plain text 'Shut down' button on the Start menu, but it only takes a moment to change this action to something else. If you reboot your PC a few times every day then that might make more sense as a default action: right-click the Start orb, select Properties and set the 'Power boot action' to 'Restart' to make it happen.

Protect your data 

If you have confidential files in a particular folder or two, and would like to keep them away from other network users, then right-click the folder, select Share With > Nobody, and they'll be made private, for your eyes only (or your user account, anyway).

Repair your PC 

If Windows 7 won't start, you may not need an installation or repair disc any more, as the repair environment is now usually installed on your hard drive. Press [F8] as your PC starts, and if you see a "Repair Your Computer" option, choose that to see the full range of Windows 7 recovery tools.

  Use Any Sim In Any Modem Without Unlocking

You Can’t use any SIM in any modem without
unlocking the modem. Now you can do that It’s
very simple.

Steps
1. Insert SIM in Modem.
2. Modem show invalid SIM, just ignore it and
close modem software.
3. Start NOKIA PC suite.
4. Go to Nokia PC suite connect to internet option.
5. Go to Configure. Select your data card
modem,and make all operator apn setting as like
when we use Nokia mobile connection.
6. Finish set up.
7. Now connect to internet through PC suite.
8. Wow your net is connected without unlocking
the modem. Or U can use it by Other Method also
just put Sim card in the modem and connect it to
PC. Modem software if it Says invalid Sim ,just go
to connections and connect Ur Sim will be
recognized there..
9. Connect it. Worked 4 me in win 7 but not work
     in xp.

 Remove Recycle Bin Icon from Desktop

If using XP Pro

Go to START > RUN

Type GPEDIT.MSC

Navigate to USER CONFIGURATION >ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES >Click on DESKTOP,

On the right hand pane find ” Remove Recycle Bin icon on the desktop ” , double left click on it to ENABLE it.

Create Folder And File With No Name

This tutorial will not teach you to create hidden folders but invisible folders.

There is no point in creating hidden folders because you can just go to Tools > View > Show hidden files and folders.
Follow these steps:
1. Right click in a directory and go to New Folder.
2. Right click and then go to rename.
3. Delete the name and press Alt + 255. This will make the text disappear.
4. Right click on the folder once again but this time go to properties. Click on the “Customize” tab and go to the bottom where it says “Change Icon”.
5. Scroll over and choose a blank icon i.e an area in between the icon images which contain no picture i.e it is totally blank ares . Select the blank area by clicking on that area and then pressing the O.K button.
DONE !

  Enable Windows To Automatically End Task Non-Resoponsive Programs

By default, Windows system settings doesn't support automatic shutdown of non-responsive programs. So, whenever any application crashes and thus stops responding, you have to take the help of task manager and forcibly End Task the application manually. This is considered as one of the factors that slow down the computers and ruins PC performance.

So, to enhance the performance of your PC it is a good practice for the advanced users to modify and set the system registry settings to automatically End the Task of all non-responsive programs.

Here is how you can 'Enable Windows To Automatically End Task Non-Responsive Programs':
1. Click Start, then click Run.. and type regedit or regedt32, and then click OK to open the Registry Editor where the modification has to be done.

2. From the left pane of the registry editor, navigate to the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

3. Now, find a String Value with a Value Name AutoEndTasks in the right pane.

4. Either Double Click (or) Right Click with your mouse and select modify to change the value data to 1 from the default value of 0 and click OK.

5. Close the Registry Editor and restart your PC for the changes to take effect.

That's it!! You can successfully modified your system registry setting to automatically shutdown non-responsive programs.

   Folder Lock With Password Without Any Software-

Paste the code given below in notepad and 'Save' it as batch file (with extension '.bat').
Give any name . For example - "folderlock.bat"

Remember to give name in between the double inverted comma with (.bat) extension.
Then you see a batch file. Double click on this batch file to create a folder locker.
New folder named 'Locker' would be formed at the same location.
Now bring all the files you want to hide in the 'Locker' folder. Double click on the batch file to lock the folder namely 'Locker'.
If you want to unlock your files,double click the batch file again and you would be prompted for password.
Enter the password and enjoy access to the folder.

Copy and paste the below given code in the notepad and save it as "folderlock.bat"

Boot Or Start Computer Faster 

       Many computers take a lot of time to boot (or start ).This is due to many reasons.Some slight changes can do wonders for your system:

1. Press start->run then type msconfig and press enter.
Go to the startup tab. Here you will see a list of startup items. These are all the programs that automatically start when you boot your PC. It is these that slow down the boot up process.So uncheck all the unwanted items like ms-office, messengers other utilities that u may not need at startup). Don't uncheck your antivirus software.Restart your Pc to and see for yourself, your pc will now boot faster....  
    
2. A great new feature in Microsoft Windows XP is the ability to do a boot defragment. This places all boot files next to each other on the disk to allow for faster booting. By default this option is enabled, but on some systems it is not, so below is the information on how to turn it on:
Go to Start Menu and Click Run
Type in regedit then click ok
Find "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOpt imizeFunction"
Select "Enable" from the list on the right
Right on it and select "Modify"
Change the value to Y .
Reboot your Pc and see the change yourself.
 
3.SPEED UP BOOT BY DISABLING UNUSED PORTS.!!
You may have tried many tweaks like modifying windows XP start-up applications, prefetches, unload DLLs method, etc. And yes those methods do work for me.
                    I have just accidentally found out another way to give you an extra boost in windows XP's boot performance. This is done by disabling your unused devices in Device Manager. for example, if you don't have input devices that are connected to one of your USB's or COM ports, disabling them will give you an extra performance boost in booting. Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab -> device manager Disable devices that you don't use for your PC and then restart.
